As you prepare to launch research projects this fall, do you or your grad students need refreshers on how to make your biodiversity data reproducible? How to handle species data is a topic that is mostly ignored by universities even though species are the basic units of biodiversity studies -- so most of us never learned. However, these concepts are imperative to understanding your species data, whether you can trust species IDs in GenBank or GBIF, and understanding how the missing data from undiscovered "dark taxa" species can impact your research. This crash course will cover all of these ideas as well as where systematics is heading in the era of genomics and AI.
