The Department of Anthropology and the Laboratories of Molecular Anthropology and Microbiome Research (LMAMR) at the University of Oklahoma invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in evolutionary, conservation, and ancient/anthropological genomics.
The initial research will focus primarily on cuscuses, addressing questions involving diversification, systematics, biogeography, conservation, and the evolutionary consequences of human-mediated translocations. The researcher will also have opportunities to contribute to projects involving shrews and other mammalian systems and to develop related research questions that align with their interests.
This is a combined wet-laboratory and computational position in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment. The successful candidate will generate and analyze genomic data from modern, museum, historical, archaeological, and other degraded biological materials, including work in LMAMR’s ancient-DNA laboratory. Candidates should have some experience with laboratory protocols and be willing to conduct wet-lab work. Prior ancient-DNA experience is welcome but not required; training in laboratory and computational methods will be provided as needed.
The postdoc will have opportunities to lead publications, mentor students, collaborate with museum researchers and conservation partners, and develop grant proposals and new research directions with Dr. Lilly Parker. We welcome candidates with complementary backgrounds and do not expect applicants to have experience in every method listed in the full advertisement.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in a relevant life science, computer science, or anthropology field. The position is full-time, with salary commensurate with experience and University of Oklahoma benefits. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal. The start date is flexible.
