Postdoctoral position in human evolutionary genomics / immunogenomics / functional genomics (Paris, France) We invite applications for a 24-month postdoctoral position at the interface of human evolutionary genomics, immunogenomics and functional genomics. The position is part of the IMMUNARCH project, funded by Université Paris Cité until January 2029, and will start no later than 31 January 2027. The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the evolutionary history of archaic genetic variation associated with immune function. The project will combine ancient genomes, population genetic analyses, and functional genomic data to identify and characterize archaic variants with potential effects on immune phenotypes and reconstruct their evolutionary histories. Available functional datasets include results from massively parallel reporter assays (MPRAs), chromatin accessibility (ATAC-seq), and gene expression (RNA-seq) experiments across different immune cell types and experimental conditions. Research activities - Integrate ancient and present-day genomic data with functional genomic datasets to identify archaic variants with potential regulatory effects on immune phenotypes - Analyze ancient genomes to reconstruct the evolutionary histories and allele frequency trajectories of functionally relevant archaic variants - Investigate and compare evolutionary signals across immune pathways, cell types, and pathogen-response categories - Contribute actively to manuscript preparation and the presentation of results at international conferences Required profile - PhD in evolutionary genomics, functional genomics, bioinformatics, or a related field - Strong background in functional genomics, performing associated experiments (MPRA, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq), and analysis of the corresponding large-scale genomic datasets - Strong computational skills and experience with scientific programming, particularly related to the analysis of ancient genomes - Excellent written and spoken English - At least one first-author publication (published or in press) - Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international research environment Experience with cell culture and organoid systems would be an advantage. Environment The position will be based jointly at the Institut Jacques Monod (IJM) and the Institut Pasteur, both located in the heart of Paris, in a dynamic, international research environment with computing infrastructure adapted for large-scale genomic analyses. The postdoctoral researcher will be jointly supervised by Dr. Stéphane Peyrégne, head of the paleogenomics group at the IJM, and Prof. Lluis Quintana-Murci, head of the Human Evolutionary Genetics Unit at the Institut Pasteur. The Peyrégne group uses ancient genomes to investigate human evolutionary history and its relevance to human biology and health. The Quintana-Murci group investigates the evolutionary history and functional diversity of the human immune system. Together, the two groups provide complementary expertise in paleogenomics, population genetics, human evolutionary genomics, immunogenomics, and functional genomics. Remuneration and benefits Salary starts from approximately €2,500 per month after taxation, depending on experience, according to French public research scales.
