The Theoretical Evolutionary Ecology group, led by Prof. Hanna Kokko, at the Institute of Organismic and Molecular Evolution at the University of Mainz, Germany, invites applications for a 3-year postdoc position starting 1 January 2027 (Salary level TV-L E13, 100%), with a negotiable start date. Experience in mathematical modelling in the field of evolutionary ecology (broadly interpreted) is essential; interest in engaging with the empirical side of this field is a plus. Our group consists of people of diverse nationalities and the group communicates in English, which is also the language of teaching. The postdocs in this group all contribute some of their time to teaching BSc and MSc students. Applications must be sent in a single pdf and include: (1) a CV, publication list, and contact details of at least two referees, (2) a motivation letter stating what the applicant would ideally like to work on (max. 2 pages), (3) a ‘journal club task’. We have a weekly journal club, see kokkonuts.org → ‘Journal club’ for a list of recently discussed papers. Choose one, and write a max. 3 page document on (a) why this paper piqued your interest and (b) what are the statements and questions you would have said about it in the journal club, had you been able to attend. Applicants should send their pdf to Prof. Hanna Kokko (hkokko@uni-mainz.de) with the subject line “Postdoctoral position in Theoretical Evolutionary Ecology’ Your Name”. The application review will commence on 25 September 2026. The position will remain open until filled. (to subscribe/unsubscribe the EvolDir send mail to evoldir@evoldir.net)
