The Humane Genomics Education Award and the Research Community Engagement Award from the American Genetics Association
Call for Educators, Creators, and Community Leaders: The Humane Genomics Education Award 
Are you passionate about making genomics accessible, ethical, and understandable for everyone? The American Genetic Association (AGA) is seeking innovative thinkers, educators, and community leaders for the Humane Genomics Education (HGE) Award. This award recognizes and supports individuals and teams who are breaking down barriers in science education and fostering conversations about the ethical, humane, and societal impacts of genomic technology. Potential grant-supported activities could include, but are not limited to, curriculum and course development, continuing education for instructors, development of educational resources, travel to workshops, and support for guest speakers.
The Humane Genomics Education Award is a pilot program from the AGA to support educational activities and initiatives that improve genetics education and promote 'Humane Genomics'. 'Humane genomics education' is an approach to teaching modern genetics and genome science that improves understanding of genetics, decreases students acceptance of non-scientific notions of genetic essentialism, and reduces racial bias by dismantling persistent misconceptions about race and genetics.

The American Genetic Association grants RCE Awards to AGA members for engaging with local communities
Building meaningful relationships between scientists and the communities connected to their research is essential for trust, ethical research practice, and long-term collaboration. Research shows that distrust in science often stems from perceived institutional authority and inaccessible expertise (Yearly, 2000). In biodiversity genomics and related fields, strong partnerships with local and Indigenous communities are now recognized as critical—but are rarely provided dedicated funding sources through traditional research grants.
The Award for Researcher Community Engagement is a pilot program from the AGA to support the relational work that enables responsible science and development of trust in the broader scientific enterprise. Funding covers activities that strengthen trust, foster communication, and encourage more co-created understanding between researchers and the communities where they work, do research, plan to do research, or come from. We are particularly interested in proposals that will engage rural, under-resourced urban communities, Indigenous communities, or communities that do not have a long history of engagement with scientists.
