Description of Position: The Biological, Chemical, and Environmental Sciences (BCES) Department at Wheaton College is seeking applicants for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor position starting Spring 2027 (Jan 18th) and continuing for Fall 2027, Spring 2028, and Fall 2028. The 3/3 teaching responsibilities will include upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise in the Spring, and Genetics and a course in data analysis using R or Python geared towards bioscience majors in the Fall. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise and teaching experience in evolution, genetics, or bioinformatics.

Job Summary/Basic Responsibilities: 

• Teaching effectively in an in-person environment that fosters meaningful student-faculty interaction.
• Creating a course syllabus (with assistance, if desired) and ensuring it is provided to students and posted on the course’s Canvas site.
• Selecting and ordering textbooks and/or procuring other required course materials before classes begin.
• Grading assignments in a timely manner and posting grades in Canvas.
• Holding regular office hours and being responsive to student needs.
