PhD Position in Disease Ecology & Coronavirus Modeling University of Georgia | Department of Infectious Diseases Sundaram Laboratory The Sundaram Laboratory at the University of Georgia is seeking a PhD student to join the research group, with an intended start date in January. Our lab investigates wildlife reservoirs, coronavirus dynamics, and the mechanisms driving zoonotic spillover using an interdisciplinary approach that combines disease ecology, spatial statistics, and machine learning. Position Details: - Focus: Research centers on animal reservoirs, host dynamics, and the predictive modeling of coronavirus spillover. Students are encouraged to tailor projects to align with their specific scientific interests within these broader themes. - Support: 5-year full graduate research assistantship, including a stipend, tuition waiver, and health insurance. - Location: Athens, Georgia. Responsibilities: - Curate and manage global databases on wildlife reservoirs and disease outbreaks. - Process and integrate GIS environmental and socioeconomic data layers. - Apply spatial modeling and machine learning to evaluate pathogen persistence and spillover risk. - Author manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. To Apply: Interested candidates with a background in ecology, epidemiology, data science, or related fields are invited to contact Mekala Sundaram at msundara@uga.edu. Please include a CV, references and a brief statement of research interests. (to subscribe/unsubscribe the EvolDir send mail to evoldir@evoldir.net)
