PhD Student Position Available - OXPHOS Function & Genomics
A highly motivated PhD student is sought to investigate the multiomics of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) within the mitochondria of high-altitude adapted birds and other animals. Advanced training on the Oroboros O2k and analysis of genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and other integrative data will be possible.
The position will be based at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, with Dr. Kevin McCracken and a team of collaborating investigators, many affiliated with universities in South America. Travel to high-altitude sites in the Andes will be required. Spanish speaking skills are essential. As most fieldwork will be remote, a driver’s license and ability to drive a manual transmission will be necessary. Students from the Andean Community are especially encouraged to apply.
Biology PhD students at the University of Miami are guaranteed 5 years of support with annual stipends of >$35,000/year, including a full tuition waiver and health benefits with expected increases for cost of living each year. Both university fellowships and departmental teaching assistantships are available, as well as summer support.
