Florida State University Evolutionary Genomics The Kopania Lab (https://ekopania.github.io/) in the Department of Biological Science at Florida State University is recruiting graduate students to start in Fall 2027. Our lab seeks to understand how selective pressures interact with developmental and functional constraints. We primarily do this by studying two different biological systems: (1) The evolution of the vertebrate retina and (2) The evolution of reproduction in rodents. Our work integrates cutting-edge genomics and transcriptomics techniques with phylogenetic comparative approaches to understand molecular and trait evolution. Our current focus is the evolution of the retina in fishes, and students will have opportunities to develop their own projects in this area. Interested candidates should email ekopania@fsu.edu with a CV and a brief summary of research interests. The graduate program application deadline is December 1st, but please reach out well before then because I will meet with candidates via zoom before the deadline. I will be taking students through FSU's Ecology and Evolution graduate program (https://www.bio.fsu.edu/ee/), a vibrant and collaborative community with strengths across several areas of ecology and evolution. We also interact with colleagues with expertise in genomics, sensory biology, and fish biology through our department (https://www.bio.fsu.edu/) and the Coastal and Marine Lab (https://marinelab.fsu.edu/). More information about the graduate program is available here: https://www.bio.fsu.edu/grad/eegrad/. If you have questions, please email ekopania@fsu.edu.
