The Van der Burg lab is currently seeking 1-2 applicants for the 2027 application cycle!  We work on the evolution, genetics and physiology of seasonal plasticity in butterflies and moths. Current projects include: (1) Investigating how seasonal signaling differences are regulated at the molecular level in butterflies, and (2) how winter diapause is regulated at the molecular level in moths. Specific projects will be tailored to individual students.

We are particularly interested in students with a background in Ecology and Evolution, with a strong interest in integrative research, including genetics, physiology and bioinformatics. Experience working with insects is preferred, but not required.

Currently, funding is available through TA-ships, with several GRA funding applications pending.

Clemson University is an R1 research institute located in beautiful upstate South Carolina. Students will join through the Department of Biological Sciences on Clemson's main campus.
